EN/ability Project is on the initial planning on creating a rehabilitation village in Borbon, Cebu. We came to this decision when parents from our outreach program expressed that they cannot bring their kids to rehabilitation centers due to location and funds. We came across with a very helpful book written by David Werner entitled “Disabled Village Children: A guide for community health workers, rehabilitation workers, and families.
Important factor is to include the community: parents, teachers, day care officers, etc. in building the rehabilitation village. This is very important as these parents will take care of the playground and it will give them the initiative and drive to spread the idea to other nearby municipalities. We empower the parents that creating this rehabilitation playground is doable by the community. This will give them the strength and knowledge that their kids can be integrated with the community.
We will use simple raw materials that will be donated by our sponsors. We would need different type of volunteers in completing our playground, from Architects, Engineers, Carpenters.
Volunteer therapists are needed to help explain parents on the rationale and use of each toys on the rehabilitation village and how it can help their kids depending on their developmental delay.
