The EN/Ability Project is a Cebu based non-profit organization that impacts underserved children with special needs of Cebu provinces through awareness & early intervention using a consultative and collaborative approach. Last January 24 – February 1, EN/Ability Project assisted US-Based International non-profit organization called Liddle Kidz Foundation.
This Global outreach program focused on the foundation’s primary advocacy of touch therapy or pediatric massage. This therapeutic approach to mental and physical wellness through massage is a very specific and medically technical skill that provides a lot of benefits. 30 Global Ambassadors from Liddle Kidz came to the Philippines and taught parents, day care officers, teachers on the techniques on pediatric massage.
Tina Allen, founder of Liddle Kidz Foundation had 3219 applicants for the Philippines Global Outreach and chose 30 ambassadors from US, Canada, Australia and Japan. All of the ambassadors are certified in Pediatric Massage Therapy (CPMT) and they taught parents, day care officers, teachers, social workers on techniques on pediatric massage.
Ms. Allen managed the US’s first comprehensive pediatric massage program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), where she trained volunteer massage therapists and medical professionals to work with hospitalized Rehabilitation patients, medically complex infants in the Center for Newborn and Infant Critical Care (CNICC), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Children with Retinoblastoma, Spina Bifida and Cerebral Palsy.
These methods of massage and touch therapy are effective that it can help improve the condition of children with special needs. These can also be applied to patients in hospital who are suffering from physical and mental trauma and conditions.
EN/Ability Project assisted on the Cebu leg of the Philippines outreach for 9 days. Both organizations went to Borbon Municipality, SOS Village of Talamban Cebu, Balamban Municipality, Barili Municipality, Missionaries of the Poor and the Little Lamb Center. The members of En/Ability Foundation are mostly Occupational Therapists and Physical Therapists as well just like the Liddle Kidz Foundation. Together they went to the above mentioned municipalities and centers whose kids are mostly those with special needs and they administered the special touch therapy in order to help improve the kids conditions and empower their parents and guardians so to ultimately improve their lives.
